Emergency Foundation Footing Extension for Custom Home

Location

Crows Landing, CA

Project Overview

BSR Renovations was contacted for an urgent foundation modification on a custom home under construction in Crows Landing. Changes to the building plans required the addition of brick siding along the lower portion of the home’s exterior, which meant the existing foundation needed to be extended to provide proper support.

Because construction schedules were already underway, the footing extension needed to be completed quickly to keep the project moving forward.

The Challenge

The revised building plans called for a new foundation extension that would integrate seamlessly with the existing concrete foundation. This type of work is uncommon on new construction projects and requires precise engineering and installation to ensure the new concrete performs as a single structural system with the original foundation.

The project was especially time-sensitive, requiring emergency work on a Saturday to avoid delaying other trades on the job site.

Our Solution

BSR Renovations mobilized quickly and completed the footing extension by mechanically tying the new concrete into the existing foundation. Our team:

  • Excavated and prepared the extension area
  • Drilled into the existing foundation wall
  • Installed rebar dowels at regular intervals to create structural continuity
  • Tied reinforcement into the new footing section
  • Formed and poured the concrete extension
  • Finished the surface to provide a smooth, level base for the upcoming brick installation

The rebar dowel system allowed the new concrete to bond structurally with the existing foundation, creating a durable and reliable extension.

What Made This Project Unique?

Foundation extensions on newly constructed homes are relatively uncommon and require careful attention to detail. To achieve a proper structural connection, our crew drilled into the existing foundation and installed rebar dowels approximately every 18 inches before pouring the new concrete.

In addition to creating a strong structural connection, the finished footing had to provide a precise, level surface that would support the brick veneer installation and ensure a clean finished appearance once construction was complete.

Results

The footing extension was completed on schedule, allowing the builder to proceed with the updated design without delaying the project. The newly extended foundation provides the necessary support for the brick siding while maintaining the structural integrity of the home’s foundation system.
